HOW IT WORKS

Every item that comes through Bulky Drop gets sorted, not just hauled away. When you book, you tell us your item’s condition — and we route it to donation, recycling, or standard disposal accordingly. It’s built into every drop-off, at no extra cost, no matter which option you choose.

How Sorting Works

Three steps, and it happens automatically with every drop-off — no extra form, no extra fee.
1

Tell Us the Condition When You Book

Good condition, recyclable materials, or not usable — you select the category that matches your item right in the booking flow.

2

We Route It Accordingly

Good-condition items go to local donation partners. Recyclable materials are processed by recycling facilities. Everything else goes to standard disposal.

3

Your Community’s Numbers Stay Real

We route as much as possible to donation or recycling before anything goes to the landfill — so your diversion numbers reflect what actually happened, not marketing copy.

The Three Sort Categories

Every item falls into one of three categories, based on the condition you select at booking.
Best Outcome
Good Condition
  • Clean, functional condition
  • Routed to local donation partners
  • Gets a second life in the community
  • Never goes to a landfill
Materials Recovery
Recyclable Materials
  • Mostly metal, wood, or similar components
  • Processed by local recycling facilities
  • May be broken down for raw materials
  • Not eligible for direct donation
Last Resort
Not Usable
  • Damaged, unsafe, or non-functional
  • Routed to standard disposal
  • Not eligible for donation
  • Not eligible for recycling

Help Your Item Get Donated or Recycled

  • Be honest about the condition when you book. The category you select determines where your item is routed — accuracy helps it land in the right place.
  • Keep items clean and intact if you’d like them considered for donation. Good-condition items are what local donation partners can actually use.
  • Break down large items where you can. It helps recycling facilities process the materials more efficiently.
  • Hazardous materials and infested items are never accepted at all — they can’t be donated, recycled, or sorted, so they don’t enter the Drop Zone in the first place.
Honest Commitment

Eco-Friendly — But Let’s Be Honest

We take it seriously, but we want to be honest about it too: not every item can be donated or recycled, and local infrastructure has real limits. What we can promise is that every item is sorted by the condition you specify at booking, and we route as much as possible to donation or recycling before anything goes to the landfill — keeping your community’s diversion numbers real, not just marketing.

📍
Local Partners Routed to donation and recycling partners in your community, not a distant warehouse.
Real Numbers No inflated diversion stats — just what was actually donated, recycled, or disposed of.

Recycling & Donation — Frequently Asked Questions

Every item gets sorted, not just hauled away. When you book, you tell us the condition of your item: Good condition (clean, functional — eligible for donation), Recyclable materials (mostly metal, wood, or other recyclable components), or Not usable (goes to standard disposal). Good-condition items are routed to local donation partners; recyclable materials are processed accordingly.

No. Sorting into donation, recycling, or disposal is included automatically with every drop-off — DIY, Outside-Door, or Full-Service. There’s nothing separate to book or pay for.
Any of them. Sorting works the same way regardless of whether you choose DIY, Outside-Door, or Full-Service — just select “Good condition” when you book and we’ll route it to a local donation partner.
No hazardous materials — that means no paint, chemicals, tires, or appliances containing refrigerants. We also can’t accept any item with a known or suspected bed bug infestation, without exception, for the safety of our crew and community. These items can’t be sorted, donated, or recycled, so they aren’t accepted at all.
Use your best judgment on condition — clean and functional items should be marked “Good condition,” items that are mostly metal or wood but not usable as-is should be marked “Recyclable materials,” and anything broken, damaged, or unsafe should be marked “Not usable.”
